Merton Music Foundation

BeatAwards 2020

As part of BeatFest, Merton Music Foundation’s annual family percussion festival, we’re excited to launch the BeatAwards 2020, celebrating all manner of rhythm-making activities happening in homes, halls, garages, Music Centres and schools across Merton.

We’re on the look-out for young drummers and percussionists, Year 13 and under, who live, rehearse or go to school in Merton, to enter the BeatAwards 2020 as soloists, ensembles or school groups. Whether they’ve been playing for a term or a decade, we are looking for enthusiasm, originality and flair.

There are four different categories: Drum Kit, Solo Percussionist, Ensemble and School. Participants are invited to upload a short video performance of either a set piece or their own composition to Twitter and tweet the video to @mertonmusic.

1) Drum Kit – solo performance (play-along or drum solo) on a drum kit

2) Solo Percussionist – solo performance (play-along or solo) on any tuned or un-tuned percussion (e.g. xylophone, snare drum, conga, cow bell, body/junk percussion etc.)

3) Ensemble – percussion-only groups (inc. after-school clubs) of any size (minimum 2 performers) and any musical style!

4) School – whole-class groups (including MMF In2Music classes) with the support of a class teacher, TA or other adult from your school

Please complete the registration form for the relevant category by 4pm on Friday 15th May to apply to participate in BeatAwards 2020. You will then have until 4pm on Friday 22nd May to submit your video via Twitter.
