Christmas Cracker Rehearsal!

Updated: 30/11/2020

We are excited to confirm that, in-line with the latest Government guidance, the In-Person Music Centre Rehearsal on Wednesdays 9th December will go ahead as planned!

We are no longer accepting registrations for this event.

Please see the drop-down menu below for more information.

NB: We have decided not to proceed with the rehearsal originally planned for Wed 16th December due to its proximity to Christmas Day given the announced relaxation of household mixing rules.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Getting to the New Music Centre

Our new Music Centre location is:

Merton Abbey Primary School, High Path, London SW19 2JY.

This lovely new venue is right next door to the new Harris Academy Wimbledon site and between South Wimbledon tube station (4-min walk) and the Tandem Centre (4-min drive).

Drop-Off/Parking:

Due to COVID restrictions, parents/guardians will not be permitted on site.

We kindly request that pupils are dropped-off outside of the school and make their own way in via the pedestrian entrance to the car park. Follow the path to access the building via the glass door - please look out for staff and signage to direct you.

There is no on-site parking. Spaces may be found in the adjacent streets or alternatively at B&Q or Sainsburys nearby.

Please note that the MMF main office will still be based at Harris Academy Morden.

Is It COVID-Safe?

We have implemented a comprehensive range of protocols including ventilation, distancing and hygiene measures to ensure the safety of our learning community. Pupils will also be kept in 'bubbles' of no more than 15 in accordance with Government guidelines; this will impact on capacity and rehearsal scheduling.

You will shortly be able to read our full Risk Assessment here.

Please note:

No parents/guardians on site

Pupils and staff to wear a face covering at all times whilst on site except for when seated in their designated place for rehearsal

Strict 2 metre distancing to be observed at all times

Everyone must wash/sanitise their hands upon entry and regularly throughout the time on site

Do not attend if you or a member of your household is displaying COVID symptoms or has tested positive

Each pupil can only attend one group with exceptions for some pupils in DrumLine, Merton Mallets, MYCB and MYJO where pupil 'bubbles' can be maintained.

Please don't remain on site any longer than necessary

Please do not travel to Music Centre with people from outside your household

If you have any questions about our COVID procedures, please contact: david.rees@mmf.org.uk

What Will My Child Need to Bring to Rehearsals?

A face covering, a music stand, their sheet music and a pencil (plus their instrument!). We also recommend carrying a personal supply of hand sanitiser and tissues.

Brass and Woodwind players should bring a towel for drips and valve emptying.

Guitarists - please remember your footrest.

Percussionists - please remember your sticks and bring along any small items of percussion that you have to help minimise the need for sharing resources.

Sheet Music

Please bring your sheet music with you (paper copy or on a tablet/device) to help us reduce the need to hand things out. We will have a limited number of parts available on the day for those without their own music.

Will 1-1 Lessons Resume In Person at Music Centre?

We plan to resume a small number of in-person 1-1 lessons at the new Merton Abbey venue from January 2021. Capacity will be severely restricted. Priority will be given to existing online pupils and in order of application to our Waiting List.

We will update this page in the coming days with more information about 1-1 lessons at Music Centre.

Click here to enrol on our Waiting List.

What Will Happen with MC Groups from January 2021?

We will continue to closely monitor guidelines from the government and Arts Council England with regards to to the safe delivery of band rehearsals for our Music Centre members.

We plan to to re-introduce regular in-person rehearsals for our Saturday morning and Wednesday evening groups in the Spring Term (from January 2021). Due to COVID protocols and staffing considerations, it will be necessary to make some adjustments to the timetabling of these groups - we will be updating this page with more information soon.

Thinking Ahead to January 2021

We also plan to resume our Wednesday and Saturday groups in-person from January, with some slight timetabling changes. We will update this page with more info shortly.
