Information & FAQs
Supervision of children between rehearsals and concert at RAH
Important information for parents – The vast majority of children will need to be taken off site after their rehearsal in the morning in order to comply with child licensing regulations.
If your child is in year 9 or below, or in Year 10 or 11 without parental consent to leave site alone, it is very likely that you will need to collect your child from the Royal Albert Hall during the day after their rehearsal, and bring them back for the concert. More detailed information about this will follow soon.
Concert Dress
Young Voices, VoiceBox or Amplify Evolve members should wear either a plain black T shirt or black MMF polo shirt, with smart black trousers/skirt and black shoes
Second half narrators should wear either a plain black T shirt or black MMF polo shirt, with smart black trousers/skirt
Students cueing Soundwave/Resonance audio or DJing should wear a plane black T shirt with black trousers/skirt and black shoes
Guitar Ensemble members should wear a black long sleeved shirt or top, black trousers/skirt and black shoes.
All other performers should wear their MMF polo shirt (black for senior ensembles, blue for junior or intermediate ensembles), smart black trousers or skirt, and black shoes.
Please note children in Young Voices, VoiceBox or narrating in the second half, as well as another MMF ensemble may need to wear a blue polo shirt for their ensemble performance and change into a black top to perform with their choir/to narrate in the second half.
MMF polo shirts are available to buy from the MMF office at South Wimbledon Music Centre, £10 for blue shirts, £12 for black.
If you are unsure what your child should be wearing or have any other questions please email performer@mmf.org.uk and we will be happy to clarify.
What music will my child be playing?
Please click below to visit the Ensemble Repertoire Guide which explains what pieces each performer will be involved with. Please note that as well as any specific pieces that your child’s ensemble may be playing your child will also be involved in the massed items which involve every performer.
Which parts of the concert is my child involved in?
The concert is in two halves, each with it’s own rehearsal arrangements.
First half: Every performer is involved (including those also involved in the second half).
Second half: The second half only involves members of MYJO, String Sinfonia, VoiceBox and Young Voices, or if your child is performing as part of the massed choir with their school.
Phone Policy
Whilst on site at the Royal Albert Hall, students may use their phones when they are not performing or rehearsing and are welcome to take photos of the venue. However, they must not take photos in dressing rooms, and must not take or post photos of other students without permission. Please note that students bring mobile phones at their own risk and the decision for a student to bring a mobile phone is at the discretion of their parent or guardian.

My child is in multiple ensembles with overlapping rehearsal times, which group should they take part in?
We will liaise with ensemble leaders to decide which of the 2 groups they will play with for the rehearsals and concert. It may not be possible for your child to play in both groups, due to the practicalities of moving performers around the RAH during the performance.
My child is in an MMF ensemble and singing with their school year group
Correction (13/01/26): If your child is in an MMF ensemble and their school is participating in the massed primary choir, they will play with their ensemble in the 1st half and sing with Merton Young Voices in the 2nd half from the risers on stage, rather than with their school. This is to help ensure safe supervision amid complex backstage logistics.
My child is in an MMF choir (Young Voices / VoiceBox) and an instrumental ensemble
Children in an instrumental ensemble as well as an MMF choir will play with their MMF instrumental ensemble in the 1st half and sing with their choir in the 2nd half.
Children in MYJO or String Sinfonia as well as VoiceBox in most cases should play with their ensemble in the second half. If you are not sure, please ask.
My child is in Young Voices and singing with their school year group
Update (13/01/26): If your child is only in Young Voices (not another MMF ensemble) and their school is participating, they will sing with their school during the concert. Your child should go to school as normal on 10 March and will be taken to RAH with their school.
