Instrumental & vocal tuition

At Merton Music Foundation, we offer high-quality instrumental and vocal tuition for children and young people of all ages and abilities.

Whether your child is just starting out, or already plays confidently, we provide flexible lesson options to suit every stage of their musical journey.

Where we teach

  • In schools across Merton during the school day (check instrument availability below)
  • At our four Music Centres (South Wimbledon, Wimbledon Village, Mitcham, Morden) after school and on Saturdays
  • Online via Zoom

Lesson types

  • 1-to-1 lessons
  • Paired and small groups (where possible, not available for piano)
  • Large group classes eg. ukulele (Saturday Music School, Wimbledon College), DJ and Music Production (Soundwave, Mitcham)
  • Early Years + Key Stage 1 group classes (‘Step into Music’ programme at Saturday Music School, Wimbledon College)
  • Music Theory online group classes or 1-to-1 in-person/online

Progress & progression

  • Regular Spotlight Soloist concerts for lesson pupils to perform in front of an audience
  • Lesson pupils can choose to work towards accredited music exams
  • Opportunities to join choirs, bands and ensembles at our South Wimbledon Music Centre, leading to exciting performance opportunities including the Royal Albert Hall

Music Theory Classes Online

  • Go from Grade 1 to Grade 5 theory in our weekly group classes
  • Delivered by an expert tutor online, via Zoom
  • Available on its own, or included for free in Ensemble Membership
