Exams
Exams aren’t essential, but they can be a great way to celebrate progress
Music exams can provide a clear goal to work towards, helping young musicians track their progress, stay motivated and build confidence along the way.
There are eight graded levels, starting at Grade 1 and exams take place twice a year at our South Wimbledon Music Centre. Your child’s tutor will advise you when the time is right for an exam, taking into account their instrument, experience, progress and confidence. A Grade 1 exam might be appropriate within a year or two, depending on how regularly they practise. It’s worth noting that Grades 6 to 8 carry UCAS points, which can be useful when applying to university.
Preparing for an exam can be a rewarding experience, helping young musicians develop their skills, confidence and sense of achievement. Whether it’s working towards a personal goal or a future career in music, we’re here to support your child every step of the way.
