Volunteering at MMF

As a registered charity, we rely on support from our community to deliver our vision for Moving Music Forward. We welcome applications from both adult and pupil volunteers into a number of available roles.

Volunteering is a fantastic opportunity for established MMF members to gain new skills by taking further responsibilities within the organisation and supporting younger players who are taking their first musical steps.

Volunteering opportunities for young people:

Duke of Edinburgh Award

MMF offers volunteering placements for Music Centre members in Year 9 and above, including those who are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

We feel it’s important for members to both enjoy their volunteering placement and feel that they are developing personally. Therefore, we require participants to commit to attending Music Centre every week for at least one term and actively engage with their volunteering responsibilities.

This may include: general office duties, assisting with instrument maintenance, stewarding, organising sheet music and helping FMYM in the café.

This may include: setting up/packing down rehearsals, maintaining and updating ensemble pads, welcoming new players into ensembles, and supporting younger musicians with their reading, playing and engagement in ensembles.

If you would like to find out more about being a DofE volunteer at MMF, please contact musiccentres@mmf.org.uk. Please note that spaces are limited.

Work Experience

We accept applications for work experience throughout the year, however spaces are very limited. Priority is given to existing MMF pupils.

Tasks include back office support, instrument stock auditing, supporting set up and pack down for concerts / performances and rehearsals and contributing to our busy social media content strategy.

If you are interested in undertaking work experience with MMF, we ask that you provide a CV and covering letter. We’re always keen to understand what you hope to gain from working with us and what you feel you will be able to contribute. Please include information about this in your covering letter / email.

If you would like to speak to us about a work experience opportunity, or to apply, please email: wex@mmf.org.uk

Don’t forget to include your CV and relevant school contact information (e.g. head of year / form tutor with responsibility for work experience).

Support the FMYM Café

The Friends of Merton’s Young Musicians (FMYM) run a vibrant café on Saturday mornings at our South Wimbledon Music Centre. Proceeds go towards FMYM, a registered charity in its own right, enabling them to support the work of MMF through donations and funding of special projects.

We are always in need of more volunteers at the café, pop in to speak to a member of the committee or email for more info: fmym@mmf.org.uk

Volunteer with MMF

We welcome applications for volunteering roles at MMF supporting our back-office, instrumental stock management and music library. Occasionally, we are also able to offer opportunities supporting our busy programme of activity working with children and young people.

Roles are subject to vetting including obtaining and Enhanced DBS check.
