Rotary Young Musician – Merton and District heats update

MMF hosts Merton heat of RYM Competition

We were proud to host the Merton Local heat final of the 2025/26 Rotary Young Musician competition in November 2025.

The event was honoured by a visit from the Mayor of Merton, Martin Whelton, and two highly esteemed judges, MMF’s TEMPO Ambassador Prof. Robert Mitchell and Tina Jacobs-Lim from The London String Group.

The concert was full of young Merton Musicians all of an incredibly high standard.

Winner of the instrumental category was Hasan T, member of Merton Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Winner of the vocal category was Amani P.

Runner-up was Jan J, also a member of MYJO.

Thanks to Angeles Walford – Merton Rotary, Alastair Newman – St Matthew’s church and Faith in Action and huge congratulations to all those that took part and their friends and families that came to support.

Merton finalists shine in District heat!

Our local heat winners have further progressed on to compete in the district final and both performed exceptionally well.

Amani finished as runner-up in the vocal category and 3rd place overall.

Hasan was once again the winner of the instrumental category and will progress on to the Cluster heat (effectively the semi-final) on March 1st. Progression in the Cluster heat will ensure his place in the National final.

We are so proud of both of these wonderful young people and wish Hasan the best of luck in the next round.
