Amplify is MMF rock & pop programme for young musicians! Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced player, there’s a band waiting for you! Working in small groups and guided by experienced band leaders, you’ll explore a wide range of genres from funk and soul, to indie and blues.

String Sinfonia is an exciting ensemble for our most advanced string players at Grade 4+ and who are at high school.

Drum Line is an intermediate/advanced group where percussion and drum kit students can challenge themselves by playing technically advanced drum line repertoire.

Thursdays

Resonance Ensemble is MMF’s new free, open-access group for young people aged 14–25 who live in and around Merton.

Inspired by Soundsystem Culture and Electronic Dance Music, Resonance is built on collaboration, creativity and a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere. Expect live instruments blended with sampling, triggering and music tech. Whether you play drums, trumpet, produce at home or simply love music, you’re welcome at Resonance. No prior experience is needed.

Young Voices is MMF’s junior choir for children aged 7-12 (Years 3-7). The aim of the group is to develop general musicianship skills and ensemble experience through use of the voice and provides an ideal introduction for the young or ‘novice’ musician.

Junior Concert Band ( JCB) is for students at pre-Grade 1 up to Grade 1/2 who are at an early stage of their playing and ensemble skills. Percussionists are invited to join once they have been members of the Junior Percussion Ensemble.

Merton Abbey Primary School, High Path, London, SW19 2JY.

Our South Wimbledon Music Centre is at Merton Abbey Primary School, next to Harris Academy Wimbledon and between South Wimbledon tube station (4-min walk) and the Tandem Centre (4-min drive).

Drop-off/parking:

We kindly request that where possible pupils are dropped-off outside of the school and make their own way in via the pedestrian entrance adjacent to the car park. Follow the path to access the building via the glass door – please look out for staff and signage to direct you.

There is limited on-site parking available on Saturdays and weekday evenings, and there is a Blue Badge bay in the staff car park. Please click here for more information on parking.

Parent/guardian parking is in the playground, accessible via the staff car park gates (please do not park in the staff car park).

Everyone who uses sheet music – a pencil

Brass players  – a towel for their water keys

Guitarists – a footrest

Percussionists – drum sticks

NB. We provide a tuck shop and on Saturday mornings, the Friends of Merton’s Young Musicians run a pop-up cafe so your child may want to bring some money for a snack/drink.

The great thing about the scheme is that for every order placed, Merton Music Foundation gets credit to spend on upgrading and maintaining our instruments. Orders are delivered to Merton Music Centre South Wimbledon every few days and can be collected on your next visit – so it couldn’t be easier.

We think this a great way to support music making and your local music shop that provides many things that the internet can’t!
