Instruments for Merton Schools
Instruments for Merton Schools
Over 1,000 brand new instruments purchased for Merton schools.
In its role as a Local Delivery Partner of the London Southwest Music Hub, Merton Music Foundation (MMF) has responsibility for allocating funding from the Department for Education’s Capital Grant for Musical Instruments in our local area.
MMF allocated almost £50,000 from its portion of the Grant to purchase instruments for Merton schools. Since September 2025, over 1,000 instruments have been purchased and delivered to Merton schools using Capital Grant funding.

Miss Whitefield, Director of Performing Arts at Harris Academy Wimbledon, shared her thanks for her school’s new instruments:
‘I just wanted to send a message saying a HUGE thank you to MMF for the capital grant funding for instruments. The difference you have made to our supply is truly amazing and we cannot thank you enough. We have many boxes to unpack/build but just wanted to send you a thank you.’
The Capital Grant for Musical Instruments, Equipment and Technology is a Department for Education initiative in response to the ambition that ‘all children and young people…learn to sing, play and instrument and create music together’, as set out in the 2022 National Plan for Music Education. £25 million of funding has been made available nationally via the Grant.
MMF is a consortium member of SWL Music, the Hub Lead Organisation for London Southwest. Music Hubs are partnerships that support, deliver and enable high quality music education for children and young people within a local area.
