Bringing high-quality music to every school in Merton

At Merton Music Foundation, we believe every child should have the opportunity to experience the joy of making music. We support schools across the borough with a wide range of high-quality, inclusive music services – from our In2Music whole-class instrumental programme and peripatetic tuition to singing assemblies, CPD and creative projects.

Our experienced tutors work in partnership with primary and secondary schools to deliver engaging, inspiring music experiences tailored to each setting — helping to nurture creativity, build confidence, and support well-being. We also bring schools together for exciting events, including Merton SingFest, MMF Presents… at the New Wimbledon Theatre, and our biennial Music is for Life concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. These unforgettable moments celebrate young people’s talent and the power of music to unite communities.

Together, we’re helping every Merton school build a strong and joyful music offer – one note at a time.

Teaching Resources

Our free and growing collection of songs and music teaching resources is designed to support confident and effective music teaching in primary schools – whether you’re leading a singing assembly, planning a class music lesson, or looking for ideas to enrich your curriculum.

At the heart of our offer is Sound Ideas, a practical resource aligned with the 2021 Model Music Curriculum. It includes guidance on progression, composition and listening activities, classroom percussion, and carefully selected free resources – plus a wide range of songs, teacher tips and short instructional videos. It’s especially helpful for staff who may feel less confident teaching music.

You’ll also find ready-to-use materials for singing, performance and school events – all with lyrics, audio tracks and teaching suggestions.

Mini Musicians – Subsidised Offer 2025/26

Following the success of the initial Mini Musicians programme, MMF is pleased to confirm that Merton Council is able, for 2025/26, to support a subsidised offer of weekly specialist delivery to support the legacy of the programme for schools new to the project. The Council is offering a subsidised funding model for schools already involved in the pilot programme, based on a professional learning model.

Curriculum Support & CPD

We work alongside teachers to strengthen music in the classroom through in-school INSET and CPD, curriculum planning support, and termly networking and training meetings – building confidence, creativity, and a strong foundation for music education.

Music Resources for Schools

We create, curate and signpost high quality resources and materials for school leaders and teachers to support the delivery of outstanding music lessons, clubs and ensembles. If you would like to discuss how we can support with planning for musical progression in your school, please contact us.
