In2Music

A group of children in school uniforms play small red ukuleles in a classroom. One boy in the center looks directly at the camera and smiles, while other students focus on their instruments during a CPD music activity.

St Teresa’s has a very strong relationship with MMF. This collaboration has led to an excellent wider opportunities project that gives Year 4 children the chance to learn three separate musical instruments across the school year. The tuition is consistently of a very high quality and the organisation of the programme is excellent. Thank you for working with us to achieve such an important aspect of lifelong learning.

Justin Dachtler, Headteacher St Terresa’s Catholic Primary School

“To support children with learning an instrument, primary schools should offer group instrumental teaching programmes in class time – either WCET or large/small-group tuition.”

Whole Class Ensemble Tuition, also known as “Wider Opportunities” or “Whole Class Instrumental Teaching” is designed to give children in a whole year group the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. It is suitable for years 4, 5 and 6. We provide a trained tutor and a class set of instruments for your pupils to learn with. We offer a wide range of instruments: trumpet, cornet, trombone, djembe, samba, tuned percussion, flute, clarinet, recorder, violin, guitar, ukulele. Don’t worry, we will help you select a project that suits the needs of your pupils.

You will need to provide a space to store the instruments, a space for the teaching to take place (a classroom, a school hall or a music room), a class teacher to support the sessions and the opportunity for the children to perform at the end of the project.

Our General Musicianship and Pre-WCET programmes offer schools a flexible way to ensure pupils are given access to an enriching musical experience at all key stages. Pupils will develop the fundamental skills, knowledge and understanding required to go on to learn an instrument and meet the requirements of the National Curriculum.

You will need to provide a space for the teaching to take place (a classroom, a school hall or a music room) and a class teacher to support the sessions.

Our PPA cover packages are designed in consultation with the school. Projects can focus on WCET delivery, General Musicianship or a combination of both. Schools can choose to combine with provision from other providers (e.g. MSSP) and may target specific year groups, whole key-stages or the whole school.

Pricing is based on tutor hours and is typically much cheaper than using a cover agency or supervisor. Contact us today to discus: in2music@mmf.org.uk

Projects typically run for 10-weeks per term, but can operate flexibly. We also offer year-round packages for PPA cover. If any of your pupils would like to continue learning the instrument after your project ends, we offer a 25% discount for one full year and reduced instrument hire rates.

Our ‘Standard Package’ projects require the active support and participation of the class teacher. This facilitates strong classroom management from a member of staff familiar with the class and having a member of staff learning the instrument alongside the class also sends a powerful message to the children. Participation in an In2Music programme acts as powerful CPD for your teaching staff.

We also offer PPA packages where classes can be supported by a TA – please see our Price List for more information.

Yes, we try very hard to be flexible and meet your school’s preferences. There are implications for instrumentation here as it depends on the availability of a suitable tutor and the instrument(s) you have chosen. Generally, we have to work together to find a day and time that is suitable for your school and the tutor. We will do our absolute best to meet your requirements.

This is possible by arrangement and subject to availability of instrument sets.
