Subsidised continuation groups for children who will be in Year 3 from Sept 2025 and that have participated in the Mini Musicians programme at their school in 2024/25.

Take your musicianship to the next level and join Merton’s first melodica group!

Using the Mini Musicians melodica they have been using at school, your child will learn a range of new pieces of increasing complexity and have the opportunity to perform as part of a group. Pupils will also have the chance to try other keyboard instruments, such as the piano or accordion during the sessions.

Where / When

Music Centre, South Wimbledon (Merton Abbey Primary School, High Path, SW19 2JY): Wednesdays, 4:15pm – 5pm

Soundwave Music Centre, Mitcham (The Sherwood School, Abbots Road, CR4 1JP): Thursdays 4:15pm – 5pm

Cost

These groups subsidised by funding from Merton Council. An administration fee of £15 per term applies for each child, however this fee can be waived for families that may struggle to meet the cost.

Mini Musicians Programme

Mini Musicians is a collaboration between Merton Music Foundation (MMF), Merton Council, The University of Roehampton and Sing Up. Between January 2023 and July 2025, six hundred and fifty Merton children participated in whole class and large group musical learning as part of the programme.

Children in the 2024/25 Year 2 cohort in the ten Pilot Schools (who start Year 3 in September 2025) all learned to play the melodica, a type of keyboard instrument. Melodica Maestros is a continuation group for this cohort of children, funded by Merton Council and delivered by MMF.

Mini Musicians Pilot Schools: Benedict Academy, Bond Primary School, Garfield Primary School, Hillcross Primary School, Merton Abbey Primary School, Perseid Lower School, SS Peter & Paul Catholic Primary School, St Matthew’s CofE Nursery & Primary School, West Wimbledon Primary School, William Morris Primary School.
