To round-off a flurry of concerts this term, we had a wonderful afternoon in one of London’s finest parks, enjoying performances from Concert Band and MYJO as part of Regent’s Park Music Festival, which puts on free live music at the bandstand every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday until 18 September.
It was a particularly special performance from the Merton Youth Concert Band as it was their last time being conducted by Norma Whitson, who is sadly stepping down from leading our Music Centre bands and ensembles, although she will continue working with us in a teaching capacity.
As MMF’s Chief Executive, Elisabeth Wigley, said “Every now and then, remarkable teachers come along, whose dedication towards their students is exceptional and who inspire and enthuse those who are luck enough to cross their paths. Our own Norma Whitson is one such teacher, so it is with great sadness what we will be saying goodbye to Norma at the end of this term.”
Concert Band’s performance ended with the popular Brazil, much to the delight of a group of Brazilians (complete with their national flag) who happened to be in park.
